My name is Andres Rocha, Coach Rocha to most, and I teach 7th and 8th grade Social Studies along with coaching the boys basketball and track teams. I am a UNT grad, Go Mean Green!, and I live in Denton with my wife Emily Rocha. I’ve been teaching and coaching at ICCS for almost a decade now!
I am very proud to participate in the mission of ICCS promoting the total development of the child and recognizing the dignity of every person. I feel privileged to teach the Social Studies curriculum for my classes because it is built around the Catholic Social Teachings and full of the richness of our faith. The Social Justice Teachings of the Catholic Church orients the perspectives and morals that guide our studies of both Texas and US history. I try to foster an environment of prayer, study, conversation and critical thought which also allows the natural joy and curiosity of children to radiate in the classroom.
I also am very passionate about the opportunities and lessons athletics can provide children. Athletic competition can be a space where children discover their autonomy and ability to improve themselves. Team sports are also a great space for children to learn humility, sacrificial love, and selflessness. I’ve seen athletics promote so much growth in the young men I’ve coached over the years. Competition can be difficult, especially for beginners, because adults can’t shield children from negative outcomes or difficult situations during games or meets. With this in mind, we strongly promote growth, development and participation for our beginners and build toward a more competitive environment on our older team. We compete in the North Texas Independent League and our boys have won league championships in both track and basketball in the past 5 years. Go Knights!
