Spanish Upper School
Upper school Spanish students will build their Spanish-speaking skills through story-telling and skits, reading level-one novels, hold an upper school Spanish Christmas party and Caroling event, connect live with English language learners from Spanish speaking countries, and experience quarterly field-study trips.
Grade 6: Traditional Spanish Dishes/ foods in Spanish Speaking countries around the world. Students will learn Spanish through songs, traditional Spanish dances, games, reading short stories, and from hands-on classroom activities, from art to cooking. Students will learn how to make various dishes, from salsa to tamales!
Grade 7: Traditional songs and games in Spanish Speaking countries. The 7th grade class will connect live with students in South America, Mexico, and Spain to speak to each other in Spanish and English, and to learn about the lives of other middle school age students around the world.
7th grade novels: Piratas del Caribe y el mapa secreto and Agentes secretos y el mural de Picasso and Tumba (Day of the Dead novel) by Mira Canion, Pobre Ana and El viaje de su vida by Lisa Ray Turner and Blaine Ray
Grade 8 Advanced Spanish: Holidays & Cultural mores in Spanish Speaking Countries. Advanced Spanish Students will choose a pen pal from a Spanish-Speaking country and ICCS Spanish students will connect live with other classrooms around the world in an opportunity to communicate with students who are learning the English language.
